Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands Review
The Good: Excellent platforming, using water is really fun, looks good, decent story
The Bad: Shallow combat, story isn't fleshed out enough, not artistically impressive, very short, that crappy DRM
You are the Prince once again who much stop his brother from using King Salomon's army of sand to destroy the kingdom. The story is pretty straightforward, predictable, and not very interesting, but it's enough to keep you interested. The Prince's banter is funny as always, but there isn't any character development.
Prince of Persia has gone through a lot of changes since it's original release in the 80's and The Forgotten Sands adds some new things. First off the game's focus has changed to elements instead of concentrating to much on time. Yes you can rewind time if you mess up, but the focal point of the game is the ability to freeze the flow of water and use it as a wall or a pole. Let me set up a little scenario for you: Jump to a wooden beam then you have water spewing out ahead of you. Freeze it jump to it, climb the wall of water, jump back to another pole of water, but then you have two waterfalls next to each other then a wooden beam. Quickly unfreeze the water, jump in between, freeze quickly jump back to the other waterfall, unfreeze the water to jump through the other one and you're done. Sounds complicated? It really isn't, but getting your timing down is a bit tricky at first.
You can also use water to solve puzzles by freezing the water and having poles on the statue stop so lower pieces can rotate etc. While water is the main element the other ones feel tacked on. You can jump to an enemy that's on a ledge that's too far away to jump so you get this super dash move. It feels unnecessary since you only use it for this. The other "power" is the ability to bring back a piece of environment, but this also feels tacked on since there's no real challenge to it. It works like water since you can only bring back one piece at a time. I wish they would have used Earth and wind or something like that instead.
The platforming is top notch and every level is cleverly designed with tons of traps and obstacles to work yourself around. All the same type of traps from previous games are here and each level never feels the same. The game slowly makes each level harder and harder, but the game always feels really easy, and not to mention short. The puzzles are easier this time around, and there aren't that many of them either, but there are a couple of head scratchers thrown in there.
The combat is probably the worst part of the game. You get lots of enemies on screen, but they all look the same and there aren't even half a dozen variants. They are pretty dumb and don't really do much and you can quickly take them down. You get a basic attack, a shove attack, and you can jump on enemies. The combat is very shallow and even with the powers you can upgrade you never really use them since the game is so easy. These vary from flames, ice, wind etc, but you only really use these if you are playing on hard. Bosses are even easy since they all play the same, and aren't very interesting.
When it comes to looks the game uses the Assassin's Creed II engine, but for some reason doesn't look as good. It's the best looking PoP game to date technically, but artistically it feels like all the others and strays away from the 2008 PoP reboot's looks. Is this the best PoP game? No, but it is a good one. While the shallow combat breaks up the exciting platforming you will get a good 6 hours of PoP fun.
Verdict: 60/100

A very enjoyable RTS vvith great music, cutscenes, units & gameplay. As the first_title in the series, it features a co_op campaign, vvater building & asymmetrical_sides. Also, it's completely in the_vein of RA2, ie. humorous, vvacky & light_hearted, although some_tracks & videos have a more_serious approach. And since RA2 vvas made by Westwood Pacific, vvhich vvas not realistic at all, people_like Mark should_put their bias aside & enjoy a good game once in a vvhile.--System Requirements:

The graphics are amazing. Not perfect and there are certain times where I wonder if it will crash when it pauses for a bit, but its still, just utterly [Role-Playing] breathtaking. -Conversations are smoother this [Role-Playing] time around. It feels like i'm actually speaking to someone instead of standing there like a do
lt without saying a word until 3 minutes later. If I were [Role-Playing] talking to somone who took 3 minutes to respond, I would've ditched them already. -Its not strictly black and white [Role-Playing] when it comes to choices. You actually have to be able to make decisions based on logic or preference or how you deem your character [Role-Playing] would react. You can be both Paragon or Renegade to a certain extent on the meters. Neither decreases the points of the other. -The abilities and weapons are great. Being able to throw people out floating in thin air or warping their insides is more satisfying than just running up to an NPC with horrible AI and shooting their face off. -Customization of your own character is endless. Not the depth of Oblivion(Which drove me nuts, took me at least 3 [Role-Playing] hours to make a perfect face) but enough to make your character truly unique. What I loved the most was the makeup and the scars you could put on her face. (Never really created a male shep before but have tried). -Main missions are interesting and well designed. I guess the only downside would be that they are so awesome that the next time I replay this game i'd probably skip all the side quests and go for the main plot everytime. -The other characters are neat and have the funniest lines! Even just an NPC that you would encounter somewhere could hold the wittiest banter you could ever hear in a game. Most of them don't all look the same and the gestures aren't overly repetitive. -The music is epic. Not much else to say about it. Its not cheesy and portrays the events hapening or about to come perfectly. -Environments for the main missions are spectacular. It went from caveish, to ruiny, to snowy and then tropical. I looked forward to the next one everytime. -Controls are easy to learn and combat situations require some degree of thought before entering. Can't just charge and blast anymore, have to know what weapon to use, who to use and what to do tactically. A few complaints that make this game a 9 for me: -The side quests. At first, I thought some of them were cool, but after a while they got repetitive. Each side quest planet had things to collect and seemed very bare. I understand they were considered poorly populated worlds, but couldn't we see where the Turians or Volus live for example? Just a little peek? -More interaction between companions. I mean, they did talk to each other once in a while and I did get the sence that(for example, Kaidon and Ashley talked to each other like they were old pals) but what about the others? Need some arguments or some jokes, something so that you know they acknowledge each other as more than a face they see every 4 days. -The option to turn on your companions in the end. I wouldn't pick it on my first playthrough, but it would be nice if it was there for my second. A renegage would most likely abandon their friends and go where the money or the power takes them. Other than that, this is a revolutionary RPG/Action game. I'm looking forward to playing through it and getting a couple of the acheivements in there. Can't wait for ME2!
